Tested out Drifter...

Yesterday I had the first sail for sometime and tested out the drifter sail. It worked good but seems to be too small. I will contact Rolly Taskers and have them make a bigger one for me.

Hello Warren
Re drifter (& any other loose flying fore sails, like gennaker etc ).
We rig our's as follows :
1 make a tight rope between the bows with a loop in the middle , you wisely fitted the "horns", so that is easy .
2 tie a single block whihj can take 8 -10 mm rope to the loop ( lash with 4 mm rope )
3 rig an 8 mm rope from said block to the cockpit or hull top . with some 6 meter spare , use cleat or jammer .
block end is a quick release shackle
4 rig ( lashing with 4mm rope) a block on each bow
5 rig a line from the port side of cockpit or hull top via block on port bow ,to afore mentioned quick release shackle .Block or jammer at hull end, 6 meter spare rope
6 Like wise starbord
You have now made a tack line arrangement .
Still there ?
Connect the tack eye of your drifter , gennaker or whatever to the quick release shackle . Hoist your sail and you will have something aking to a free flying jib and it will work fine around a reach. If you go (much) further down wind your sail will tend to collapse . by releasing the center rope and pulling the windward rope you can keep your sail perpendicular to the wind and avoid it collapsing, all the way down to a dead run . all this without the need for a boom. Try it , it 's cheap and VERY effective .
Cheers

Hi Makz,
Sorry for the delay in responding. The last few months have been pretty hectic and I have not had time to do much on the boat. But, things are settling down now. I really appreciate your thoughts and I am going to give it a try.
Slipped the boat today.
Thanks again...Warren
PS. I will be coming down to Phuket within the next couple of months to check out the marinas for next year, as I will be sailing the boat to Thailand next year. I will let you know when I am coming and we will get together for a beer.
